Development of Class A Surfacing CAD System

Summary

Class A data (or Class A surface data) is high-quality surface data used to express product styling. During the process of design development of four-wheeled vehicles, Class A CAD is used to generate Class A surface data based on 3D scanned data from clay models. An original CAD system for the generation of Class A styling data has been developed in order to respond to the increasing complexity and diversity of shape expression in four-wheeled vehicle styling, and at the same time to increase the precision of Class A data and the development efficiency of the process of generating Class A surfaces. The new system has displayed positive results in the areas of shape expression, shape accuracy, and development efficiency.
