Development of Low-cost Card-edge ECU for Small Motorcycles

In the development of ECU this time, the transfer molding of semiconductor manufacturing method and the card edge connector technology were applied to the ECU of electronic fuel injection system. In the ECU, whole components, except for the edge connector terminals, are sealed with resin. This ECU is transfer-molded using an epoxy resin specifically developed and mold die with a new mechanism. Furthermore, we developed a waterproof card edge connector to be mated with this ECU. Multi-contact terminals and vibration suppressing mechanism were applied to get a stable contact state. These enabled the equivalent vibration resistance as before and the detachability to the ECU in narrow space. With those measures, the developed ECU achieved more than five times higher productivity and 20% cost reduction compared to the conventional products.
