Development of Two-sensor Crash Detection Method for Motorcycle Airbag System

Summary

An airbag system for a motorcycle was developed by establishing a crash detection method using two accelerometers, which reduced the number of sensors compared to the previous system. In the previous system, the Safing Judgment method was employed based on signals from four accelerometers. In the newly developed system, the judgment method was established with only two sensors by utilizing the difference in characteristics of the waveforms of sensor outputs. Installation freedom for the sensors was enhanced due to the space for installation gained by the removal of two sensors.
